Learnings from Jharkhand’s Health System Engagement –
Translating Theory into Action
For the quality of services in rural India, public health facilities play a pivotal role in ensuring the reduction
of maternal and neonatal deaths. The health services related to institutional delivery, maternal and child,
care, etc. were found to be disrupted due to the pandemic. In this scenario, initial glance suggested that
there was a huge gap in the demand and service. Our approach was first to understand the ground
realities and based on that provide contextual inputs for which we focused on

Jharkhand for facility assessment so far, we
have done 118 L1 and 11 L2 facility
assessments in 8 districts of Jharkhand, and
based on that outcome-based matrix is
prepared which is further used to improve
quality health parameters.
Supported NHM Jharkhand in Program
Implementation Plan (PIP) 2022-23 for
Biomedical Waste Management.
Establishing the Paediatric ICU (PICU) and
there were 11 PICU established in
two districts.
In Latehar, Lohardaga, Ramgarh, and Ranchi
detailed assessment reports on cold chain
management have been shared with the Transforming Rural India Foundation ANNUAL REPORT 2021-22
government of Jharkhand for the betterment
of the cold chain system and strengthening of
Immunization services.
In Simdega and East Singhbhum assessment
on Kayakalp has been done and they got
certification from the Government of India
for the Kayakalp facility.
District Hospitals of Gumla, Khunti, and
Ranchi got LaQshya certification.
