Walmart Foundation on Thursday announced a grant of US $ 12 lakh (about Rs 10 crore) to ‘Transform Rural India Foundation’.
This grant will be used to increase the average base income and improve the livelihood of 15,000 women rural farmers in Uttar Pradesh.
According to a statement issued by the foundation, the grant will be used for a two-year project. To create mainly 10 self-reliant women led FPOs (Farmer Producer Organizations). The focus will be on creating a platform to enhance and diversify the livelihood of women farmers.
“This project strongly reflects our commitment to reach 1 million farmers with at least 50 percent women by 2028,” said Julie Geharkey, vice president, chief operating officer, Walmart Foundation. This investment will expand our reach to more women in rural areas. Will drive sustainable growth and strengthen our impact by opening up additional sources of income.
